Structure

The required sections for valid Visual-meta are the Description, Start, Introduction, Citing and End. Other sections, as shown in the links below, are optional.

Visual-Meta starts with a heading in whatever format the document uses; ‘Visual-Meta’, followed by Description text for a human reader.

The Visual-Meta data is presented after
@{visual-meta-start}
and completes on
@{visual-meta-end}

Note that it is recommended that the reader software parses from the end of the document, looking for this closing tag @{visual-meta-end} and work backwards, to know what to parse.

Please also note that Visual-Meta as an Appendix is slightly different from Visual-Meta as a copy (clipboard) payload since the act of copying text from a document with Visual-Meta should not only include the selected text but also the page number it was found on, to enable linking to that page.
