Metadata means data about data, in other words it is the data which makes clear what other data is.
There are two categories of metadata: Internal and External:
- External metadata is stored externally to the what they define. This is where phone records for surveillance would fit.
- Internal metadata is stored inside what they define, such as that in a document. This is what Visual-Meta stores and makes available.
